Nice to meet you!
I’m Cheska, a Filipina American film composer and creator currently based in San Diego, California. I love bouldering, watching silly sci-fi movies, and reading books on rainy days!
You’ve probably seen my music and film composer career tips on Instagram and YouTube. In weekly videos, I share my own journey as a composer and the actionable advice I’ve gathered along the way.
How it Started
I started learning to compose in Garage Band on January 2019 and began documenting my journey on Instagram and YouTube, halfway through my junior year of college.
While I was at school studying clinical laboratory science, I realized that I had always loved music, film, and creating. My parents wanted me to go into medicine, but I just couldn’t see myself doing that as a career.
So after I graduated in 2020, I worked hard to learn how to compose for film and find filmmakers I wanted to collaborate with. I balanced a job at a lab during the pandemic with posting content, composing, and finding film scoring work for 3 years!
How it’s Going
Over the past few years I’ve been able to compose for documentary feature films like BAHALA NA by Andrew Orticio and short films like STILL QUEER by Yuelei Song, CLOWNING TIME by Matthieu Oflas, and GOOD FILIPINO KIDS by Andrew Acedo.
My work has screened in Hollywood at the TLC Chinese Theatre via Outfest Fusion and in my hometown San Diego through the San Diego Filipino Film Festival.
When I’m not composing, I mentor and support other composers in connecting with filmmakers online and landing their next projects.
