Hi, I’m Cheska! I’m a composer with a knack for using the internet to connect with filmmakers around the world.
Over the last 5 years, I’ve scored dozens of independent films and documented my journey landing film scoring gigs from scratch on YouTube and Instagram. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’ve helped many other composers along the way.
Today I make music for documentaries with my Emmy-award winning collaborator Stephen Spies, and help composers build relationships with filmmakers and game developers around the world.
This website is for my work mentoring and providing networking support/client research services for film composers.
If you’re interested in working with me, reach out at cheskamakesmusic@gmail.com.
I love helping other composers connect with filmmakers.
Ever since I landed my first paid composing gig in 2021, I’ve been documenting and sharing my journey like a madwoman! My online community is quite small but I love hearing how my videos impact the careers of others. Many people have landed their first projects by following my advice which has been super fulfilling. :)

“When I began working with Cheska I was already working full-time as a composer and pianist. Most of the work I was doing was in publishing, library, and trailer music, with some (very) independent short-films under my belt.
But my goal has always been to transition into feature film work.
I had reached a point of frustration where, even though I had a relatively okay idea how to approach filmmakers, I wasn’t seeing any success. I lacked a clear roadmap to achieve my goals, and above all needed to develop the accountability required to get them done. So, after seeing her around on my socials for a few months, I decided to take the leap and start working with Cheska.
Immediately I felt motivated and excited to start the process of developing my outreach skills with Ches. In our industry, so rarely do we have the opportunity to soundboard ideas off of someone; reflect on anxieties, small and big wins, and just generally strategize the next steps of our career. But this is precisely what we did together. Cheska has the most amazing ability to adapt her skillset and knowledge-base to your individual needs and where you are in your career, to help offer compassionate, understanding advice in an industry often devoid of both.
There’s no ‘trick’ to finding work as a composer.
It’s rather about adopting a mindset, positioning yourself to ‘be lucky’ and to be consistent with your own unique approach. Cheska undoubtedly helped me foster this attitude. And if you’re feeling like you’re in a rut, or not sure how to take your composing career to the next level, then I wholeheartedly implore you to reach out to Cheska and see if there’s something she can see that you’ve been missing.
Since working with Cheska I landed my first feature film, and am currently waiting to sign a contract for my next. At the time of writing my mentorship with Cheska is over, but we’ve already discussed working together again in the future in a different capacity – and I’ve no doubt it will be as fruitful and as fulfilling as the last time.
Not only is she a fantastic composer, she is also as generous, as sincere, and as thoughtful a mentor you could hope to have on the other end of a Zoom call or IG DM whenever you need.
So do yourself a favour and send her a message!”

I also love composing for film…
…and work w/ Emmy-Winning composer Stephen Spies.
Stephen and I met in 2025 after he approached me for guidance on connecting with filmmakers online. Since then, we began working on music and scoring documentaries together! Until the End of Time is our first collaboration. Learn more here.
No one is teaching film composers how to actually build relationships that lead to work.
So, why should you work with me?
When I began my film composer journey in 2020, I thought that the key to starting my career was to enroll in a masters program.
But the problem was, I already had $100K in student loans from studying science and I was working full-time in the medical field at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And I was frustrated with the vague advice given by composers online.
It was only when I realized that I could use the internet to discover and meet filmmakers that my career really began.
I learned how to build a network on my own, without knowing anyone in the industry, and have worked on over 20 projects myself and helped composers around the world connect with 100+ filmmakers as a result.
And I’ve never relied on competing with other composers for the same job or sending out hundreds of cold emails.
You don’t have to either.
I can help you through creative matchmaking or 1:1 mentorship.
What is creative matchmaking?
It’s a bespoke service where I work with composers to match them with the right clients in film and games, and help them build real relationships that lead to work they’re excited about. This is NOT a coaching or mentorship program. I do the tedious research of finding filmmakers that are doing work that is relevant to you and help you reach out to them and make a connection.
What if I’m interested in mentorship?
If creative matchmaking doesn’t feel like the right fit for you because you’re earlier in your journey, I can provide one-to-one mentorship and guide you through the ups and downs of connecting with filmmakers. Typically I meet a composer on Zoom once a month through mentorship hosted through my Patreon OR offer a 6 or 12 month mentorship package.
During calls I help you learn how to research the type of filmmaker you want to work with, come up with ways to market yourself online, and build a relationship with filmmakers who are a good fit for you. Most composers I’ve worked with appreciate being held accountable because reaching out to filmmakers and being patient when nothing happens is hard. When you apply below, I’ll send you some different mentorship options based on your needs and meet with you to answer any questions.
How does creative matchmaking work?
Creative matchmaking is a team effort. Every month, I research and curate filmmakers and game developers that align with a composer’s creative and professional goals, and the composer connects with them through email, Instagram DMs, and meetings to build a relationship. I also meet with the composer to receive feedback on the artists I’ve curated and discuss our progress connecting with them.
What guarantees can you make in your creative matchmaking service and mentorship?
I can’t guarantee when a composer will receive work, but I can guarantee that over time, they will build genuine relationships that make landing opportunities inevitable. Everyone I’ve worked with has been able to meet filmmakers as a result- the rest is up to the many factors that influence filmmaking, including luck. Starting relationships is all I can promise.
How are you different than an agent or manager?
I work directly with composers to help them connect with potential clients every month, and work on a flat fee rather than commissions. Composers are responsible for negotiating their own fees and reserve the right to turn down projects as they see fit. I simply make it easier to meet filmmakers.
